Somerset College won the annual ‘Ashes' played against Parel Vallei High School for the 9th year in a row. As a culmination to the cricket season, the First XI's of both schools rival with bat and ball over four innings and three days. This year the Ashes was played at Parel Vallei.
Somerset College lost the toss and were sent in to bat on a difficult batting wicket and were eventually bowled out for 151 early on day two. PV was bowled out for 42 runs. Cameron Johnstone (29) and Ant Fry (30) top scored. John Roelofse took 5 wickets for 4 runs in 11 overs.
Somerset College then commenced their second innings with a 109 run lead, and eventually declared at the end of the second day on 179 for 5, amassing a 288 run lead, eventually winning by 170 runs. James Churchman scored a brilliantly crafted 55; while Dylan Burger managed a quick-fire 50 not out, and Nic Burke a solid 34. Nic Murrell took four wickets in the final innings.
