Somerset College Preparatory hosted the event this year. It was most enjoyable, with the best athletes from Bridge House, Somerset House and ourselves, hotly contesting every event.
We didn't win, coming second to Somerset House, but what a day! Our spirit was awesome. Our Grade 7s kept the supporters going throughout the event. If supporters have any effect on athletic performance, then those who broke records owe them a huge thank you. They were cheered on over the finish line by the entire school.
We are proud of all our athletes who gave of their very best. Athletics is a relatively new sport at Somerset College Preparatory and we are getting better year by year, due to the commitment and dedication of our Sports staff and many parents who step in to coach. A huge thank you to Kirsty de Kock, who, despite the sabotage attempted by Somerset House in the morning, managed to run a superb event. (Somerset House, we are plotting our revenge! )
Our record breakers were:
Tyler Oliver (U/12 High Jump. 1.35m)
Jamie Garlick (Boys U/12 200m. 29.72)
Islay Lourens (Girls U/10 Long jump. 3.4m. Girls U/10 100m. 15.65)
Lucca Doebele (Girls U/7 80m. 13.6)
Callum Seha (Boys U/9 80m. 12.69)
Boys U/8 Shuttle relay - Justin Whitfield, Tyron Richards, Lucca Oosthuizen, Eli Lourens. (42.4)
Girls U/10 Shuttle relay - Megan Lombardi, Islay Lourens, Nicole-Amber Smith, Kaylin Strydom (1.08.48)
Boys U/10 Shuttle relay - Jacques Morris, Dale Dolpire, Sam Henderson, Mouritz Doebele (1.04.81)
Girls ladder relay - Nicole- Amber Smith, Kelsey Greeff, Kerryn Routledge, Chloe Scott (1.02.65)
The relays were so exciting, and there was a deafening roar from our kids when our four teachers, Tarryn Rose-Innes, Kurt Alexander, Esbe Boshoff and John Herman won the teachers relay, absolutely annihilating the competition.
We congratulate Somerset House on a well deserved win. But watch out for us next year!
