Well known ex-Springbok rugby player and captain, Bob Skinstad, did some walking for good at Somerset College recently. The sports hero was out on his "walk this way" campaign and was at the school to promote his outreach drive, the ‘bobsforgood' foundation, at the school.
The foundation, started by Skinstad and a friend, aims to distribute school shoes to children in disadvantaged areas throughout the country.
Commenting on the initiative, Skinstad said that he could not turn a blind eye to the plight of millions of children who simply cannot afford a pair of shoes. Bobsforgood now distributes school shoes to countless underprivileged children, helping them take ownership of their first pair of school shoes.
While at Somerset College Bob literally went back to school by attending his first assembly since leaving school. He delivered a motivational talk to the senior grades and later was at work, signing autographs for the ‘preppies'.
It was a hard day's work all in the name of a good cause. Later in the afternoon Bob was back on the rugby field handing out tips to the Somerset College First XV, who will be touring Argentina during the upcoming Easter holiday.
