Preparatory Magazine goes digital

It was hard work. There were many requests for photographs and deadlines were extended... again and again!

Jillian Steenkamp, the Preparatory head of all things cultural, had to dredge up every ounce of patience in her effort to get the job done. She has a passion for words, and this time had to produce a magazine without  them. With extraordinary help from our very effervescent Grade 1 teacher, Esbe Boshoff, she put together something that is very special. They worked throughout the school holidays to have the DVDs ready in the new year. Each family received a general DVD accompanied by a DVD of photographs specific to their child's grade. What a treasure trove of memories!

This is not a traditional school magazine with pages of departmental reports and black and white photographs, where children's faces are barely discernable.  It is innovative. It is FUN. It shows happy kids involved in every aspect of Preparatory school life.

It has been well received. The Habernichts wrote:

Dear Mr de Waal,

Thank you so much for providing these fantastic DVDs full of wonderful memories! WELL DONE!

Please forward our gratitude to Mr Herman as well as all the other helping hands that produced the Gr 7 school "magazine".

Yes, we are very proud to have been a Preppie in 2009 at Somerset College.

With warm regards

Hannah, Claudia and Helge Habenicht

Well done to all involved. This not only cost far less than the printed item, but we have saved a few trees as well...
