Somerset College participates at Hilton / St Anne's doubles tennis tournament

Twelve tennis players from the College - 6 boys and 6 girls -  recently participated in the prestigious and very strong Hilton/St Anne's doubles tournament.  All matches were played at the beautiful and impressive Hilton and St Anne's courts. The players who represented the College were: Granville Winshaw, Martine Beyers (captain), Patrick Fatzer (captain), Megan Findlay, Paulo Scholle, Lize Mynhardt, Joshua Reuter, Kerry Engelbrecht, Conrad Erbe, Anja Gregori, Max Schurer and Margot Paxton.

It was a competitive tournament in that all players competed in two categories: boys and girls doubles as well as mixed doubles. This format really encourages team spirit and a sense of companionship amongst the team players.

Other top tennis schools which participated were: Durban Boys' High (winners of the boys' doubles), St Anne's DSG (winners of the girls' doubles), Hilton College, St Mary's Waverley, Michael House, St Mary's Kloof, St Alban's College, Roedean School, St Andrew's College, DSG Grahamstown, St Stithians College, Kingsmead College and Uplands College.

The College teams finished in 6th position in both the boys and girls doubles and in 5th position in the mixed doubles after an exciting 5-1 over St Andrew's and DSG in the play-off.
