"Charity is more than giving money to the poor. It is the giving of our hearts, time, talents and energies to lighten the lives of others, rich or poor."
Stephen R. Covey
The Outreach Programme at Somerset College is a full and varied one, with the ultimate aim of
instilling in every student an awareness of the needs of the greater community, and a sense of social responsibility towards those less fortunate.
The Outreach Programme is involved in a large number of projects which benefit organisations in the Stellenbosch / Helderberg area. The Preparatory and Senior schools provide support to local pre-schools and schools, charities, hospitals, community choirs and homes for the elderly and a many other institutions.
Social responsibility is encouraged in students from early on in their Preparatory careers, and culminates in a compulsory 24-hour service commitment programme in Grade 11. In addition, the College holds coaching clinics and workshops in the sporting sphere for local students at underprivileged schools, as well as offering Mathematics and Science instruction.
