About Somerset College

School Development
In the ten short years of its existence, Somerset College has managed to build and maintain world-class facilities for its students. The most versatile of these is the College's 1000-seater multi-purpose hall, able to double as a theatre, a sports hall, a concert venue and much more. Seating 600, St Matthew's Chapel is also used for music concerts and other large-group gatherings. Modern, airy classrooms at both the Senior School and Preparatory with science laboratories, art, drama and music facilities, IT laboratories and more, complement a range of sporting facilities such as squash courts, sports fields, tennis courts and a water polo swimming pool.

While the campus has a lot to offer students, there is more still to come. Short-to-medium term projects include the final phase of the Preparatory school academic block, a Creative Arts block in the Senior School, additional playing surfaces for cricket, rugby and hockey, improved parking, improved kitchen and dining facilities for boarders.

To this end, and in the spirit of furthering students' education and learning opportunities, the College pursues fundraising avenues such as corporate sponsorship, corporate partnerships and the development of a strong alumnus so as to ensure the school's growth stays ahead of the demands of a modern and dynamic educational environment.

Another area in which the College is focusing its development is the retention of a first-rate teaching staff. With an increasingly competitive independent market that points to a teacher shortage in the future, innovative methods need to be found to develop, recruit and retain exceptional staff - and this is a crucial component of the College's plans.
